Uplyme Project
The Lyme Regis Community Land Trust has been working with the Uplyme community since 2022 to explore the delivery of affordable homes for local people.
The project began following evidence of local housing need identified within the parish and the opportunity to develop an exception site at Cannington Lane. Since then, the Trust has worked closely with Uplyme Parish Council, local residents, housing specialists and professional consultants to develop proposals that respond to local needs while respecting the character of the village.
Community support has been a key part of the project from the outset. A public meeting held in Uplyme Village Hall in October 2022 demonstrated strong local backing for the principle of providing affordable homes for people with a connection to the parish.
Over the following years the Trust secured grant funding to undertake environmental, ecological, engineering and planning studies, and worked with Middlemarch Community Led Housing to move the project forward. A number of design options have been explored to address the challenges of the site, including landscape impact, access arrangements and drainage requirements.
The project has now reached an advanced stage. Hastoe Housing Association is working with the Trust and the project architect to develop a viable scheme that would provide a mix of affordable and social rented homes, together with opportunities for shared ownership. The homes would be allocated to people with a local connection to Uplyme and would remain available to the community in perpetuity through the Community Land Trust model.
The Trust continues to work with its partners, local authorities and the community as the project progresses towards a planning application.
